Andrew Roberts

Friday 11th October 12:20 - 13:20 | Northwood House

Andrew Roberts’s new book Churchill: Walking with Destiny has been described by 11 newspapers, including the Sunday Times, Wall Street Journal and New York Times, as the best single-volume biography of Winston Churchill ever written. Come to see Dr Roberts, the author of 15 books, Visiting Professor of War Studies at King’s College, London, and the Roger & Martha Mertz Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, speak about Churchill’s powerful destiny, and the effect it had on Churchill’s remarkable life and career. It seems extraordinary that after so many biographies of Churchill, there should be anything new to say about him, but Robert’s undoubtedly has discovered a great deal that is new, not least from Her Majesty The Queen allowing him to be the first Churchill biographer to read her father King George VI’s diaries. Churchill met The King every Tuesday of the Second World War and told him his greatest hopes and fears, which The King wrote down. Roberts will thus unveil a new Churchill to the Red Funnel Isle of Wight Literary Festival.
