Annabel Leventon

Saturday 13th October 20:00 - 22:00 | Northwood House

Oxford in the ’60s was one thing: rock ‘n’ roll another. Playing the lead role in Hair!, creating (and losing) Rock Bottom, the first ever all-girl rock band, ought to have been quite another again–but for actress/singer Annabel Leventon this roller-coaster set the pattern of her life.

In her latest cabaret charting her extraordinary career through the songs that were its sound track, Leventon paints a rich, exciting picture of an era and explores what it takes to step out of line. The girl who started acting at five and singing at 14 is still pushing the boundaries of performance.

Her latest cabaret show, Going Furtherlike its sell-out predecessors, combines songs you know–Piaf, Elvis, Sondheim–with some you’ll be hearing for the first time. All of them tell a singular story of a life in show business with all its hopes, heartbreak and hilarity. Expect the unexpected.

With Steve Peters at the piano.

Leventon has written a fascinating book, The Real Rock Follies: The Great Girl Band Rip-Off of 1976, about her life as an actress, singer and founder of the first British girl rock band, Rock Bottom. The book also describes a ferocious court battle with Thames Television which resulted in a landmark ruling for breach of confidentiality.
