BBC International Editor Jeremy Bowen, who has reported from over 70 countries, will be discussing the Middle East with Lieutenant General Sir Simon Mayall, who has known the region since childhood and over his 40-year career in the military. The conversation will touch upon many of the subjects in Bowen’s latest book, The Making of the Modern Middle East: a Personal History including the power games that have so often wreaked devastation on civilian populations and the political, cultural and religious differences between such countries as diverse as Erodgan’s Turkey, Assad’s Syria and Netanyahu’s Israel. Bowen who has been covering the region since 1989 is uniquely placed to explain its complex past and its troubled present.
