Happy to Help

Our incredible team of volunteers are vital to the success of the Literary Festival. As you will see from the roles listed, volunteering for the Literary Festival is varied and interesting. You can arrange volunteering to suit you and your lifestyle– volunteer for the weekend, a day, a morning, an afternoon or an evening. The only qualification is a friendly, helpful and smiling disposition.


Check room at the start of the day to ensure there is water and glasses and the room is tidy and warm.
Check tickets.
Manage late arrivals.
Move audience out of the room.
Tidy the room after the event.
In case of emergency act as a guide to emergency exit.

Box Office

Sell tickets.
Print tickets for any festival goer who hasn’t printed their tickets.
Answer enquiries.


Provide general information and assistance for festival goers and volunteers
Help disabled and elderly
Check with volunteers to ensure they have everything they need
Cover for volunteers on break
Support the box office when busy

Book Signing

Direct the author/speaker to the signing area
Ensure the queue is orderly
Assist the author/speaker

Green Room

Ensure access is restricted to authors/speakers only
Provide tea, coffee, drinks and food as required

Author/Speaker Host

Escort author/speaker to Green Room
Collect author/speaker from Green Room and escort to venue
Ensure author/speaker has drinks and food as required
