A major presence in the British Jazz scene, Nikki Iles is as distinguished a composer as she is a pianist. She won a Junior Exhibitioner’s scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music when she was 11 and is now professor of jazz piano at the RA and at the Guildhall School. She has won a number of prestigious awards, including the John Dankworth Special Award in the British Jazz Awards and the British Empire medal in the Queen’s 2022 New Year’s Honours List for services to music. Nikki is much in demand here and abroad both as performer and teacher, and her many commissions include ones from the innovative Creative Jazz Orchestra, of which she was a founder member, the London Sinfonietta, and Tim Garland’s Northern Underground Band. She is currently Artist in Residence to the North German Radio band (NDR).
